Speedflex Q&A – James O’Connell

Speedflex Q&A – James O’Connell

Thursday 30th November 2017

This month a familiar face in Newcastle steps into the spotlight to share his man crush and how the arrival of his daughter this year has reignited his love of Disney!

Who is your hero/who do you look up to?

I don’t think I could ever pin point one person in my life as a hero or someone I look up to, however I am very privileged to have friends in my life that I look up to for various different reasons, they set good examples and push me to be a better person every day.

Where in the world would you most like to visit?

Disneyland Florida, I’ve just recently started to re-watch Disney films as I want to keep up to date for when my daughter is older, so it’s got me really wanting to go. Something tells me I will probably enjoy it more than her!

What’s your favourite film and song?

Favourite film is tough, there are so many that I love but silly comedies have to be my favourite. Maybe something like 21/22 Jump Street. I do enjoy a rom com from time to time.

Favourite song is John Mayer – Free Fallin’, it’s a great chill out song and something a little different after listening to dance music all day in the studio.

If you could have any job in the world, which one would you choose?

I’d have to be a professional athlete of some sort. Those that know me know I enjoy my extreme sports, so maybe something like downhill mountain biking, or rally car driving.

What’s the best piece of advice anybody has given you?

Nobody ever grew in their comfort zone. This can be applied to so many different aspects of life.

If you were stranded on a desert island and you could choose three things to have, what would they be?

Obviously my family, an unlimited supply of Reese’s chocolate, and a jet ski.

You’re hosting a dinner party and can invite any three people (dead or alive) who would you invite and why?

Channing Tatum (slight man crush), Will Smith (just because) and Barrack Obama (to obviously ask about all the secrets of the White House).

What one item would you want to save if your house was on fire?

I’m assuming that my wife, daughter and cat don’t count as an item and they are already safe. I’m not a very materialistic person however one of my PT clients did buy me a Reese’s chocolate advent calendar so probably that!

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

It would have to be a double happy. Not that I ever order a Chinese takeaway.. but.. if you ever do and they have a double happy on the menu, GET IT! It’s basically a bed of egg fried rice, a battered breast of chicken, a battered breast of duck and curry sauce! What more could anyone want?!

For you, what’s the best thing about training at Speedflex?

For me it would have to be the fact that it’s group training. I’ve trained in sports teams and group training environments pretty much all of my life. The accountability, the banter, the desire to push each other, it just all adds up to a very positive environment.
